?GRAVE? concerns over a new funding formula for schools were this week voiced by South West Devon MP Gary Streeter. Mr Streeter said under the new system, known as the dedicated schools grant, Devon was now the 144th worst funded out of 149 local education authorities. Mr Streeter said: ?I am appalled at the disparity this new system makes between the education funding settlements between the regions. ?Are our children less important than those who live in Bristol, who will receive £450 per pupil more, or even Nottingham, where they are to receive £500 more than Plymouth? ?I am sure my constituents will draw their own conclusions about the Government?s commitment to our young people and their future from these figures.? Mr Streeter has called on the Government to urgently review the education funding formula. ?This is yet another example of people in the far South West being the poor relation to the rest of the country,? said Mr Streeter. ?It is high time this government matched action to rhetoric and gave Westcountry children an equal chance.?
