THE second phase of a project which trains young people in land-based industries was officially launched by West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett last Friday.

WestDEN's Ley of the Land scheme has obtained funding which means its future is secure for the next three years.

Francis Griffiths, project manager, said: 'Generous support from the National Lottery Charities Board, Countryside Agency, European Social Fund and West Devon Borough Council will help us build on the success of the last three years and extend our help and support on a wider range of issues, enabling more young people to remain living and working in West Devon.

The launch took place at Knole Farm, Bridestowe, where Mr Burnett met young people to discuss the issues affecting life in rural communities.

Ley of the Land aims to create employment and training opportunities for young people between the age of 16 and 30 in agricultural or land based industries.
