OPERATION Sunshine had an extra pair of helping hands on Saturday when West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox helped pack a container of aid to Zambia. Mr Cox spent his time with volunteers at the Christian charity's base, loading 20 boxes onto the lorry for despatch. Operation Sunshine is a charity which collects, sorts, and packs goods to send to the needy in Africa. The goods are shipped in a 40 foot container at a cost of £6,500. Expenses for this shipment were covered by Plymouth Rotary Club and Poole Rotary Club, Operation Sunshine fundraising activities, and from group donations. Mr Cox said: 'All of the volunteers in Operation Sunshine dedicate a large amount of time and effort to providing essential aid for those in desperate need in Africa.' Maureen Bridge, Operation Sunshine's secretary, said: 'I think Geoffrey was really bowled over by the operation and loved seeing how it worked. 'The day went really, really well. We managed to finish by 12pm, thanks to the wonderful helpers we had, including the lads from Tavistock Fire Brigade. 'We are quite excited as 20 boxes of education methods were loaded, which will provide equipment for 1,000 children. This was a real team effort.'
