THE rising cost of water charges was questioned by West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox this week. Mr Cox met the chief executive of South West Water and DEFRA minister Phil Woolas, to discuss the issue at a meeting attended by MPs from across the region in the House of Commons. Mr Cox, who has been pressing the Government and South West Water for action to mitigate the costs of water in the region, said: ?I am pleased to have the opportunity again to express the concerns of my constituents about the cost of water, ?I can certainly understand their frustration at the latest price hikes when so much of the water is lost to poorly maintained pipes and the mismanagement of resources.? Mr Cox added that he finds the issue ?troubling? as some of the ?vulnerable? residents are continually asked to pay more for the basic services without receiving additional help to meet the costs. ?I shall certainly ensure that these anxieties are brought powerfully to the attention of the Government,? said Mr Cox.
