BUDDING young Gordon Ramseys, Jamie Olivers and Delia Smiths impressed judges in the Okehampton round of the Rotary Young Chef Competition this month. The competition took place at Okehampton College and was judged by professional chef Wayne Pearson of the Bull and Dragon, Meeth who was assisted by Rotary Club president Kay Bickley. The contestants had to produce a meal costing no more than £3.50 and present it to the judges. They showed both flair and innovation in their cooking. Sue Carne, Head of Food Technology at the college, supported the competition. Chef Wayne Pearson said: ?I was very pleasantly surprised to see the high standard of cooking in the competition, even from the youngest competitors who are just starting their cooking careers.? Kay Bickley said: ?All the contestants produced food of a very high standard and it was very difficult to choose, but eventually we chose Ann Webb. Her food was of a standard that you would be very happy to eat in any restaurant.? Ann was followed by Abbie Brent in second and Gemma Timms in third place. Ann will go forward to a regional final at Exeter College.
