STRANGE looks were cast upon a group of young men from West Devon throughout last month after growing unusual 'accessories' on their faces.

Seven men from Tavistock have been sporting well-groomed facial hair as part of the world-wide fundraising event 'Movember'.

Nick Lane, Greg Moore, Edd Chapple, Edd Lane, Ben Williams, Richard West and Callum Weatherston all grew moustaches for Movember — 'Mo' slang for moustache — which raises money and awareness for cancers that affect men. Unfortunately, Callum did not manage to complete the full month, but together the men have so far managed to raise more than £300, with more to be collected.

Greg said: 'It's been great. The more days that have past, the more attention we've been getting from everyone. "What's that on your face?" is the most common question we've been asked.'

Nick said the boys have been attracting a lot of attention: 'We've been getting some weird looks from people — a moustache isn't something you'd typically see on a young person these days, especially with the styles we've been grooming them in. As well as raising money it was quite cool to see what we would look like with facial hair — it turns out we look terrible!'

The annual month-long event started in 2003 in Australia by the 'Mo Bros', who set themselves on a course to create a global men's health movement.

Movember has grown year on year since then and the money raised by the event is channelled into a number of innovative education, support, research and awareness initiatives across the globe. In the UK, money raised for Movember goes to the Prostate Cancer Charity.

The boys all agreed that Movember has been 'fan-tashe-tic'.
