KATE Robbins from Lamerton won the shot put at the national Prep Schools? Athletics Championships held in Birmingham, and in doing so set a new personal best. Kate was captaining the young Mount House squad, who were looking to gain some experience and hopefully improve on their own personal best performances. She was the first of the squad to perform and improved her best-ever distance to 9m 94cms, to win the national title. The senior girls? 4 x 100m relay team ? Charlotte FitzGerald, Charlotte Pickard, Ella Hartley and Lucy Sharp ? ran an excellent heat, missing qualification for the final by the narrowest of margins, but in doing so set a new school record of 58.4 seconds. Four other personal bests were set by Mount House athletes in individual track events. George Lundy cut 12 seconds off his previous best in the 1500 metres, and Imogen Galsworthy bettered her personal best times for both the 100m and 200m. As well as her gold in the shot, Kate Robbins provided the most memorable moment of the event when despite an injured calf muscle and a rainstorm, she still managed a personal best of 50.4secs in the 300m. Geoff Whaley, head of design and technology at Mount House School, said: ?I was really proud of our athletes. They performed well despite difficult conditions, and were a credit to the school.?
