PUPILS from Mount House School achieved record numbers of Distinction and Merit awards in the music exams of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and Trinity Guildhall during the summer term.

In all, 28 children passed a total of 34 exams at grades 1 to 7, and of these 34 successes, nine were at Distinction level and a further 16 were awarded merits.

The six double successes came from Alex Zervudachi who achieved a distinction at grade 7 in violin, and a merit in grade 4 on saxophone, Eloise Kidner with a distinction in voice and a merit in piano, both at grade 2; Eleanor Hayward (grade 5 theory and grade 4 piano), Elizabeth Fearnley (grade 2 in both voice and piano), and Georgina Morris (grade 2 voice and grade 1 violin) achieved two merit awards each; Flora Dickinson was awarded a merit in the saxophone and a pass in the piano, both at grade 2.

Other distinction awards went to Ruairidh Matthews (trumpet grade 6), Yume Fujita (theory grade 5), Gemma Robbins (flute grade 4), William MacEacharn (piano grade 4), Isabel Kidner (piano grade 3), Christopher Villaquiran (trumpet grade 2) and Madeleine Lewis (cello grade 1).
