FOR the mid-week fixture against Kelly College in the first 30 seconds the Mount forwards chased down the long kick-off, and Tristan Searight put Alex Zervudachi over in the corner. After a period of Kelly pressure, the lead was extended when James Mann took a short pass from Harry Sharp to cross the line. Zervudachi scored his second try, and then Henry Salmon scored another with a searing run following a good driving maul. Two conversions from Rhys Davies brought the score to 24-0 at half time. Heavy rain and an increasingly slippery ball made good rugby more difficult. The Kelly centre scored a fine individual try to reduce the deficit, before Davies pounced on a mistake in the Kelly defence, kicked the ball over the line and won the chase to touch down for the final score of a match that ended 31-7 to the home side. This brought Mount House to their final fixture, against Taunton Prep, again at home. Taunton shaded the set pieces and probably had more possession, but lost too much of it through turnovers. Mount?s Ollie Sale won the race to a loose ball over the line to touch down first. Two minutes later Sale put an inch-perfect kick behind the Taunton defence for Zervudachi to gather and run three quarters of the length of the pitch to score. Sale then finished off a handling move to get his second try, and Davies converted to make the half-time score 19-0. Taunton?s spirited fight-back in the second period finally broke on the Mount House defensive wall, and the home team added tries through the captain Michael Cousens ? a fine individual effort ? and Zervudachi. At the final whistle Mount House 1st XV could celebrate, having won all 12 of their matches in a remarkable season.
