ORGANISERS of 2017’s Bere Apple Fest said it was the ‘best one yet!’

The annual festival in Bere Ferrers, this year opened by South West apple expert Charles Stanisland, was free to the public and during the day there was a raffle, apple competitions, apple and honey displays and even a chance to turn apples into delicious juice in the community press.

The apple pie competition, which had a record number of entries, was judged by Seth Robertson of Robertson’s Café. The competition for the ‘longest peel’ was won by a woman from Bere Alston with her 74 inch peel.

Organiser Brian Lamb said it was an ‘unbelievable day’: ‘We were concerned by the weather but it didn’t deter people we still had over 600 people attend.

‘I believe it was one of our best apple fests yet!’

Mr Lamb expressed thanks to the 60 plus people who were involved in running the apple fest, Joyce Peden who catered the event, and to Seth Robertson for judging the apple pie competition.

Morris dancing from Dartmoor Border Morris and singing from Tavy Tars added to the day of celebration for the humble apple.
