OKEHAMPTON Carnival committee raised £230 towards the costs of this year?s event at a recent coffee morning.
The cost of staging the carnival will be around £1,800. These include £350 for public liability insurance ? a rise of 37 per cent this year ? and the bands which cost up to £350 each.
Committee chairman Stan Stormont said there were also many other costs and this was the reason why only small amounts could be given to charities in Okehampton.
Organisations, to which the committee had been able to donate over the last few years include St John Ambulance, Dartmoor Rescue, Open Door Family Centre, the Air Training Corp and the Army Cadet Force.
