HOME-Start West Devon is forming a team of volunteers to work exclusively in the Hatherleigh, Northlew and Exbourne areas.
An exciting new programme of events is being planned for Mini Sure Start Scheme, a Government-funded initiative which is aimed at the under fours.
Bounce and rhyme sessions, a toy library, creche and extra pre-school sessions are some of the plans in the pipeline as well as help for parents who are experiencing problems.
Home-Start volunteers offer friendship and both practical and emotional support for families with at least one child under the age of five years. Some of those they have recently helped include: a mum suffering from depression who is coping with several under fives, a young mum with a new baby and struggling with illness, an isolated parent on a farm with children of various ages and a dad left to cope with a young family on his own.
Prospective volunteers get together for an initial informal preparation course and ongoing support and training will be provided.
