MORE work is needed before a decision is made on the future of the delivery of the library and one stop shop service in Cornwall, it has been recommended.
Following consultation and engagement on the review of the library and one stop shop service, Cornwall Council's communities policy advisory committee (PAC) met recently to consider the report and recommendation to formally procure a service provider for the whole face to face (library/one stop shop) service.
However, having discussed the issue in detail, the PAC is instead recommending that further work is done before a decision is made on the future delivery of the library and one stop shop service.
The report was due to be considered by he cabinet on July 23 but following the PAC's recommendation, the cabinet has listened to the views of members and withdrawn the item from the cabinet agenda in order to allow more time for this further work to be carried out.
Work will now be undertaken with the groups and organisations that had previously expressed an interest in delivering their local service to develop their proposals as well as inviting community and local groups who haven't expressed an interest so far to do so.
Geoff Brown, cabinet member for communities, said: 'I would like to thank everyone who has responded to this consultation as their views have helped to shape the way forward.
'The choice by cabinet, to delay a decision on the library and one stop shop recommendation, demonstrates that this was always an open consultation.
'We have listened to the concerns of the public and our members. As well as working with the groups that had previously expressed an interest in running their local face to face service to develop their proposals we will also provide the opportunity to other community and local groups and organisations to come forward with other solutions.'
Once all the proposals have been developed, they will be presented to the communities PAC for its views prior to a formal recommendation going to cabinet.
