Chagford v Chudleigh
CHAGFORD'S poor start to the season continued with their second loss, this time to Chudleigh by five wickets.
Emergency opening batsmen Stuart Lord (16) and Jerry Christophers (4) were soon back in the pavilion and Henry Gordon Lennox was dismissed for (4) Chagford were 39-3. However skipper Del Lammonby played some attacking shots to take the score to 67 before he was well caught for 27.
Wickets fell at regular intervals but young Billy Searle stood firm and Chagford were indebted to a last wicket stand of 45 between Searle and Dan Green (17 not out) to take the score to a more creditable 170 with Searle finally dismissed for 60.
Chudleigh opening Bowler Holmes bowled agreesively in two spells to finish with 4-48, and spinner Goulis finished with 4-50.
Chudleigh also made a poor start, losing both opening batmen —le-Marquand and Howard to ducks — both dismissed by Searle with Jerry Christophers dismissing Heather for (7) Chudleigh were in a similar position to Chagford at 40-3. However Hunt and Pro Goulis restored the position to take the score to 113 when Goulis was bowled by Lammonby. but the writing was on the wall as Chudleigh reached their target to give them a five wickets victory. Hunt made 61 before comming another Seale victim and Clarke on 29 not out. Billy Searle finished with 3-30 in 12 overs and Lammonby bowled without luck in his solitary wicket to bowl 1-33. However spinners Jeryy Christophers and Neal Rowlands were not as economical as usual and first change Dan Green was eractice inconceeding 34 runs in his six overs.
Billy Searle had a fine all round game for Chagford, but unless the injured first team regulars return soon Chagford face a hard season in division B.
