THERE is something lurking beneath the waters at Roadford Reservoir ? could it be Devon?s equivalent of the Loch Ness Monster?

This mystery, which has been revealed in the latest edition of South West Water?s publication ?Flagstaff?, has sent tourists reaching for their cameras as it surfaced in full view of Roadford?s popular lake-side tea shop.

The report states witnesses telling of a sudden eruption of bubbles as the phenomenon churned the water white before it snaked rapidly from east to west, suggesting the presence of something enormous and serpentine beneath the surface.

But the mystery is something far less sinister, and all part of the job that keeps South West Water?s drinking water healthy.

The ?Monster of Roadford? is actually a pipe punched full of holes which increases oxygen levels in the water in the summer months, in turn preventing discoloured water and improving the habitat for fish and other aquatic life.
