IN reference to the story in the Times issue of February 19, headlined 'Litter trial claim to be monitored' in the Germansweek/Roadford Lake area.
The problem is the council has been aware of this litter problem for at least 12 months, and as you can appreciate there's a great difference between 'monitoring' and solving a problem!
I have spoken to council people who have said they haven't seen anything after monitoring, yet I've driven there a a couple of hours later (and in the dark!) and still managed to see what they didn't spot – that is, several sheets of newspaper billowing around and cans dropped by the recycling lorry.
The council has also sent people to monitor it on Mondays, when the litter is left at Friday lunchtimes, so leaving it more than two days for kindly locals to pick it up or for it to be blown into the hedgerows, gardens, fields and reservoirs.
The root of this problem is the recycling lorry, which always looks to be in a hectic rush. Clearly they are not securing things properly.
