I AND my neighbours are going to have to witness the obscene situation of persistently offending criminals, being set up in luxury apartments, ultimately with all the facilities of a luxury holiday complex, whilst the previous residents, elderly ladies and gentlemen, have had to leave their nursing home, as depicted on BBC 2's Countrycide series.
This is happening because our politicians refuse to provide proper funding to help elderly people after a lifetime's service to society, particularly through the second world war.
To my mind, the vast sum of taxpayers' money that may be made available to C-FAR, £2-million to set up at Burdon Grange, is an affront to decent, law-abiding citizens. If only this sum could be spent by our politicians, both local and national, on our Devon elderly.
If only the Age Concern Day centre for the elderly in Okehampton could receive just a fraction to help it keep going. If only Devon County Council could have provided more funds to help Burdon Grange keep going as a nursing home for the elderly.
If only the officials of West Devon Borough Council could have used for the elderly a fraction of the effort they used to smooth the way for the setting up of the C-FAR rehab centre at Burdon Grange.
To my mind, there is something fundamentally wrong in treating our elderly so shabbily, yet at the same time pampering persistently offending criminals. Does anybody out there agree?
