TAVISTOCK Livestock Centre auctioneers Ward and Chowen have spent the summer improving livestock marketing in anticipation of a busy autumn when sales resume. A new sheep sale ring has been specially built for the forthcoming West of England Scotch blackface ram sale in October. It was bought through a special donation from Wessex Animal health, based in Hampshire, who have been excellent supporters of livestock sales at Tavistock. The new ring is likely to be first used at the Dartmoor and district mule ewe lamb show and sale ? it is anticipated 2,000 female mules will be sold when, hopefully, livestock markets resume normal activity in September. In the cattle ring, a webcam has been fitted and linked to the internet. The webcam will be up and running for the autumn sales and will allow local farmers to keep in touch with the current trade without having to leave home and potential purchasers from all over the country to view the cattle on offer. For further information about sales or details of how to access the webcam, contact the livestock market office on 01822 610080.
