THE final of the winter pairs competition at Hurdwick Golf Club was played earlier this month between Kevin Pugh and Roger Gallimore and the husband and wife team of Chris and Alena Wardle.
The last time a mixed pair won this trophy was eight years ago in 1995, so Kevin and Roger started as strong favourites. The first two holes certainly supported this rating, but Chris and Alena quickly fought back and won the match at the 16th hole.
Roger and Kevin were quickly back to winning ways for the midweek medal and Roger produced an outstanding net 62 to win the competition.
John Berry took second place on back nine from Kevin Pugh, both with a net 67.
The ?twos? sweep was shared between Kevin Pugh, John Berry and George Sargison.
The weekend medal could not match these scores and division one leader was Tim Gale with a net 69. In second place was Tony Pearson with 71 and John Bowhay took third pace with 72.
Division two was won by Paul Gunn, also with 69 and Ray Truscott was second with 70.
The leading lady was Sally Arscott with a net 71.
None of the competitors managed a Two.
