A 40-YEAR-old man was found in the early hours of Sunday morning following a six-hour search by police and volunteers on Southern Dartmoor, between Erme Pits and Princetown.

Police were called out at around 7.20pm on Saturday when the local man had become separated from his group who were training for Ten Tors.

He was suffering from cramp in both legs and unable to walk when he phoned 999.

The group had been camping near Red Lake, north of South Brent

The man had become lost and disorientated after returning to his car to collect more equipment and had become extremely tired and cold, police said.

The Tavistock Dartmoor Rescue Group team, including a search dog, with the assistance of some members of Ashburton and Plymouth teams and the police carried out an extensive search.

The search ended successfully when the missing person was found by a police helicopter, using night vision goggles, near the old Eylesbarrow Mine at 2.30 in the morning.

He was very cold but otherwise unhurt and returned to his home address.

The rest of his group remained on the moor.
