Witheridge 2

Tavistock AFC 1

TAVISTOCK suffered another defeat at Witheridge, with little to show for their efforts.

Once again the game followed a similar pattern to previous games against Falmouth, and Bovey Tracey. After taking the lead and dominating the first half, only to produce below par performances by conceding two goals in the second period, one of which being a penalty in each fixture.

Play was fairly even early on, and Dean Smith in the Tavistock goal made a finger tip save from a Jordan Charran 25 yard free kick. This was virtually the only threat on the visitors goal during the first half, as the Lambs dominated possession for long periods, with new signing Andy Sargent leading the front line well.

In the 15th minute Sargent set up Micheal Landricombe - his shot from the edge of the penalty area was superbly saved by John Wannell.

It was Sargent again that was causing the home defence real problems, and five minutes later he broke into the penalty area, only to be crudely brought down by Jamie Dirrane. Sargent picked himself up and calmly dispatched the penalty kick to give the Lambs a well deserved lead.

The Lambs continued to dominate having the home goal under considerable pressure. Kojo Ofori should have increased Tavistock's lead, when he was superbly set up by John Wyatt, but his effort was a poor one, as he failed to hit the target with the goal at his mercy.

The Lambs had further chances to increase their lead, but poor finishing did not allow them to their dominance in the first half into goals.

Witheridge were a different proposition in the second period. The equaliser came in the 57th minute when a Liam Thomas right wing cross found Sam Box unmarked at the far post, and his powerful header flew passed Dean Smith in the Lambs goal.

The home team took control and again it was Sam Box whose goal bound shot, struck John James on the hand, leading to a penalty, which Jordan Charran duly converted to give the home team all three points.

n The visitors tried their hardest to salvage a point but it was all to no avail. Tavistock play Bodmin Town at home tomorrow (Friday) night, kick-off 7.30pm followed by a trip to last years champions Buckland Athletic on Monday, kick-off 3pm.
