A NEW booklet giving information for walkers and riders on military training on Dartmoor and public access opportunities was last week launched by Huw Irranca-Davies MP, the Defra Minister responsible for the National Parks.
The Minister welcomed the new booklet and revised information boards, pointing out that they would be a valuable addition to encouraging further safe public access.
Lt Col Tony Clark, Commandant Dartmoor Training Area said 'Live firing is an essential military operational training which has to be balanced with public access. Communicating knowledge of the many periods when the fifth of the open moor used for live firing is open to the public is key to sharing Dartmoor with other users.'
The booklet is available from Dartmoor National Park Information Centres and local Tourist Information Centres.
The Minister also received in-depth briefings on the military need to train on Dartmoor.
