Milton Abbot v Ordulph
HAVING been invited to bat first, Milton openers Glanville and Crocker got off to a flying start, punishing the early wayward Ordulph bowling with zest.
However, with the introduction of Lethbridge to the attack and Smith settling into a good line and length, coupled with a variable bounce wicket, the runs started to dry up and wickets started to fall.
Danger man Glanville (30) was removed by Smith and Crocker (15) was run out by some sharp fielding by Rice and keeper Crowl. Lethbridge with impressive figures of 3 for 17 off 12 removed most of the Milton middle order, leaving Brayley, with equally impressive figures of 4 for 6 off 4, to remove most of the tail.
Milton ended up all out for 77 with Dent left at the crease not out for a gritty 12.
Ordulph soon found out how difficult it was to bat on the variable wicket. Milton?s extra pace in the bowling attack of Marker and Wellard extracted every bit of assistance from the wicket with the ball flying up, regularly causing huge problems to the Ordulph batting. Six catches mainly off the top of the bat and leading edges bore testament to the erratic nature of the wicket.
All credit to the Milton bowlers. who consistently put the ball in the right areas and exploited a naive Ordulph batting display.
With exceptional figures of 5 for 10 from Marker, backed up by Wellard with 4 for 24, Ordulph were scuttled for a mere 38 with no batsman managing double figures.
