OKEFORD Veterinary Centre is supporting the seventh annual National Microchipping Month in June.

Veterinary nurses will be running microchipping clinics, providing microchips at a specially discounted price of £9.99. They will also run free microchip checks on previously chipped animals in order to update database details.

National Microchipping Month is to raise awareness of how simple and effective microchipping is and how the permanent method of identification can mean pets are reunited with their owners as soon as possible.

The month is sponsored by Petlog and provides assistance to owners 24 hours a day.

Veterinary surgeon at Okeford Vets Kirstin Phippard said: 'If we are presented with any stray animal we use a scanner to see if it has been microchipped.

'If a chip is found we access Petlog and input the chip number.

'This corresponds to the pet and owner's details and we can then contact the owner within minutes of seeing the animal and reunite them as quickly as possible.'
