AN AFTERNOON of messing about on the river is on offer again as visitors are invited to the Watersports event at Bere Ferrers this month.

The afternoon's entertainment centres on a series of games in and around the River Tavy.

The event, on Saturday July 16, will start at 3pm in the mud of the Tavy and will continue until the tide is up, culminating in the popular 'greasy pole' game.

While all the contestants are getting covered in mud, other entertaining things will be happening around the quay, including a bouncy castle, various stalls, barbecue, bar, hog roast, face painting and much more.

For the evening entertainment, organiser Trevor Grinstead, who will retire from organising the Watersports event after this one, will be going out with a bang after booking two bands — Plymouth-based group Black Friday and Exeter indie-pop duo Girl Friday, as well as local duo Amis and more to be announced.

There will also be a disco and a fireworks display to finish off the evening.

Sponsors are still wanted for the event, any person or company that would like to be a sponsor, contact Trevor on 01822 840062.
