JOB losses are in the pipeline at a Tavistock-based manufacturing company following a merger.
James Walker Metaflex Ltd is to merge with its sister company Moorside Machining Co Ltd of Bingley, Yorkshire, on November 1. Both companies are part of the Woking-based James Walker Group.
In a statement, managing director of Metaflex, Donald Slee, said: 'Some job losses will result in Tavistock, particularly in administrative functions, but the majority of jobs will remain intact and the new company will be stronger and better able to cope with future challenges.'
The company, which manufactures high pressure seals for the oil, gas, refining, petrochemical, power generation and process industries, will be known as James Walker Moorflex Ltd.
Mr Slee, who will continue as a director of the new company, said he could not say how many jobs would be lost as a result of the changes — the company currently employs approximately 90 people.
The administrative centre for the new company will be in Bingley, so jobs are most likely to go from this area he said.
The merger is aimed at creating a larger, more efficient company with lower overheads and improved market focus.
Metaflex also has a significant laser profiling service with customers predominantly in the South West.
This will be unaffected by the changes and it will be 'business as usual', said Mr Slee.
