volunteer minibus drivers are being sought for the popular Tavistock Memory Café. The café, which meets every other Saturday between 2pm and 4pm at the Anchorage Centre in Tavistock, sees many people with memory problems, often accompanied by their carers, who need transport to get there. Former Tavistock mayor Gill Gorbutt, who is on the Tavistock Memory Café committee, said the Tavistock Area Support Services' vehicles will be the ones used for transporting café members. She said: 'The memory café is such a well attended and much needed facility for those with memory problems and their carers — it is important that none of them miss out because they cannot get there. 'Finding volunteer drivers for organisations is always difficult but it is hoped there might be people out there that could give up a Saturday afternoon now and again. 'The more drivers that can be found, the fewer Saturdays in a year any one driver would have to offer. 'It might be possible if enough respond, for a volunteer driver to only have to drive two or three times a year. 'Currently, there are some very generous people who drive for the café, but they are not able to cover every date.' Anyone who is interested, even to just find out more, can contact Andy Lyle of Tavistock Area Support Services at the Anchorage Centre on 01822 616958.
