WREN Music is looking for people who would love to share their memories and stories about Okehampton, and any old photographs of the town, as part of research for a community musical. The musical, to be staged in 2008, will include lots of songs and music, and will offer a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages to get involved, with regular workshops and rehearsals. Wren would also like to hear from people interested in joining in as props and costume managers as soon as possible. More information will be available later in the year for prospective actors, singers, musicians, sound and lighting technicians. All ages will be welcome, but under 14s will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. The project is a co-production between the Ockment Centre and Wren Music. The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a grant of £17,200 to the Ockment Centre Association towards the project, and further funding has been received from Okehampton United Charities, Arts Council England South West, and Devon County Council. Anyone with a memory or story to share is invited to drop in to the Ockment Centre, North Road, Okehampton, on Thursday May 24, any time between 1pm and 4pm for an informal chat, tea, cake and a sing-song. Any photographs can be copied, and entry is free. People who are unable to come along, but who would like to share their stories and photos, should contact Wren Music on 01837 53754, or email admin@wren music.co.uk
