THE latest developments at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital will come under the spotlight at a meeting in Okehampton next week. Martin Perry, of Northlew, the locally elected public governor of the RD&E, said: 'This is a splendid opportunity for members of the trust and the public to hear about some of the latest developments at the RD&E. 'Although there will be time for a discussion on other subjects, the main focus of the evening will be on kidney failure, kidney transplants and other renal diseases.' The speaker will be Elaine Reynolds, the renal services director, who hopes to bring with her the newly appointed Living Kidney Donation Nurse who will speak on the increase in living donations and altruistic donations. The meeting will be held in the council chamber at Okehampton on Tuesday, June 10 at 7pm. Mr Perry added: 'I do urge members of the public to support this meeting and demonstrate the interest and support there is for the services provided to Okehampton and district by the RD&E. 'Although transplants are still confined to Plymouth and Bristol, nevertheless there are a host of services provided at Exeter, including vascular treatment and dialysis. We also want to hear of any other concerns patients may have, but you may all rest assured that the meeting will close by 8.30pm. We are always determined to ensure that these constituency meetings are not excessively long.'
