AS a member of the town council and chairman of the plans committee, I feel I must reply to Maggie Stokes' letter (Times, July 10). Also I would like to back councillor Colin Rogers in his efforts to back the plans for affordable housing at Butcher Park. As Cllr Rogers said in his letter, people should look at plans at West Devon on the 750 houses at Callington Road. As for the plans committee there was the appropriate number of members present to pass or reject plans at this meeting, otherwise we would not be able to proceed. Cllr Julia Whitcomb Tavistock Town Council IN reply to Clare Raeburn's letter of last week, people's emotions can become very heated on issues impacting on their lives, facts become obscured and rejected in the drive to make their point. To this end I would suggest putting direct questions to local councillors, developers and planners to find the answers. Clare Raeburn's letter was most misleading and I quote her terminology 'outrageous' to suggest that I was misleading and told untruths. The plans clearly show a footpath inside the development, which would exit at the southern tip of the development. With regard to street lighting, with the site entrance being moved further north within the 30 mph limit, under the road traffic act, in most cases street lighting is provided and this would happen here. Clare Raeburn can use this medium to issue her apology. Cllr Colin Rogers Tavistock Town Council
