RESIDENTS in Bridestowe are being urged to attend a public meeting next week to give their views on plans for a new village hall.
Hall management committee chairman David Porter told a meeting of the parish council last Thursday that it was intended to sell the existing hall site for housing — a planning application to that effect would be submitted soon.
The committee wants to build a new hall at Pool Field next to the cemetery at the eastern end of the village and is about to apply for outline planning permission.
Mr Porter said the entrance road to the new premises would be on the 'old, old A30', now a dead end road at the top of Pool Hill. 'Car parking will not be a problem,' he added.
He urged as many people as possible to come along to the public meeting to hear of the proposal. It will be held in Bridestowe Parish Church at 7.30pm on Wednesday, July 31.
It had been hoped to build a new hall in the heart of the village on the site of the existing building — closed last autumn after being condemned.
A lengthy consultation resulted in the committee having detailed architect's plans drawn up for a new hall on the existing site.
But the idea was later shelved by the committee as it was felt it would not be able to attract sufficient lottery funding.
