ON August 8, a Yelverton Club XI captained by Iain Cunningham took on an XI selected by club president Brian Chetwynd made up of guests and a number of former Yelverton players and skippered by former club chairman, Kevin Vince.
The President's XI batted first. Useful contributions from guest players Phil Marchant (30) and Alex Palmer (25), former player Bill Birkett (16), current player Rob Bennett (42) and present Chairman Geoff Willcocks (36) allowed the President's XI to declare their innings on 190-8 off 42 overs at tea. For the Club XI, Tony Carter took 2-15 off seven tidy overs and there was a wicket apiece for Paul O'Hanlon, Jez Stokes, Iain Cunningham, Dan Cooper, Ben Vince and Ian Loze.
After the tea interval, the Club XI made a good fist of chasing down the President's XI total, but ultimately fell short by 18 runs, finishing on 172-6 off their 40 overs.
For the Club XI there were good contributions from Ian Loze (35), Dave Scott (30), Ian Cooke (26), Rich West (37) and Kevin Treweeks (24). Alex Palmer, Rob Guy, Tim Fawbert, Niall O'Hanlon and Chris Pearson all took a wicket for the President's XI.
The game was played in a good spirit, supplemented by glasses of Pimms at the scheduled drinks intervals. After the game, president Brian Chetwynd presented the anniversary shield to the winning captain, Kevin Vince.
