ARGYLE entertained fellow strugglers St Martin's, who were only a point ahead of them.

Argyle, defending a four game unbeaten run, started brightly, but as the visitors settled they created chances. Argyle relied on keeper Richard Bailey and Graham Soby, with the added advantage that St Martin's must have left behind their strikers as they squandered many opportunities to score.

Argyle opened their account after a goalmouth scramble. Ian King smashed the ball home after excellent work by Paul Yip and the impressive Stuart Cann.

This settled Argyle who extended their lead when Adam Mortimer hammered the ball home from outside the area after being set up by Ian King.

After the break, St Martin's started to get back into the game and broke through Argyle's offside. Their striker rounded Bailey and was just going to slot the ball into the empty net when Graham Soby made an excellent challenge and knocked the ball away for a corner.

From the corner the ball bounced on to Stuart Cann's chest and the referee stunned everyone by awarding a penalty.

This was blasted wide and was the last chance St Martin's had.

Daniel Gibbs came off and was replaced by Lloyd Chapman who dominated the midfield.

Adam Mortimer added the third from close range after Nick Pollard had put him through.

Kevin Gill and Mike Vernon had chances to bring the ball out of defence, as Argyle now dominated.

Pollard and Neil Agnew came off and Neil Vernon and Ian Gill entered the fray.

Both had chances to score, Ian Gill missing a golden chance from close range when he somehow dragged the shot wide.

This was Argyle's fifth game without defeat, but much of this must be down to the man of the match Graham Soby, who was awesome. The side will miss him this week when they travel to local rivals Hatherleigh, kick-off 3pm.
