Devon U15 Cup Round 1
Plymstock 5
Tavistock 17
MAN of the match Marc Kerswell, captain, led his 14 men Tavistock side to a well deserved victory against full strength Plymstock.
Progressing to the next round, the first time this side has achieved this in many years of Cup competitions, required exemplary leadership and a determination that the handicap of a player short would not stand in their way.
Individuals all performed to their best , Peck at hooker winning two strikes against the head, Jake showing pace and agility running with the ball, John Martin quick off the mark raced through a string of tackles, James Shaw sharp in defence, Mark Smith determined to compete hard and Chris Engel a tower of strength in the loose made up a strong pack.
At scrum half Euan Smith?s distribution and instinctive decision making marked him out, Ewan McCall straightened up his line of attack to good effect and kicked intelligently.
Jack Hodges not only ran decisively but looked and offlayed the ball with subtle timing. Mark Webber , playing for the first time for Tavistock , was a rock in defence and an inspiration in attack . Chris Dawe effectively covering left wing and fullback was a colossus in defence and an intelligent powerful runner in attack.
Two tries by Euan McCall and one by Euan Smith rounded off a determined team effort.
