A LIFE-SAVING operation on her treasured pet has prompted a Tavistock woman to undertake a cycle ride from Land?s End to John O?Groats. Sally Thorne aims to raise money for the People?s Dispensary for Sick Animals after the organisation funded the operation on her beloved Alsatian, Zak. Sally said: ?As a responsible dog owner I have always paid my bills, but with my dog needing to have a big operation and me being a single parent on income support, my financial situation was dictating whether Zak could live or die. ?The PDSA allowed him to live out his last year without pain and that meant more to me than all the money in the world.? Sally committed herself to helping out other pet owners by undertaking the 1,150-mile solo expedition. By cycling 50 miles a day, she hopes to complete the trip within a month, stopping en route at her brother?s house in Derby. And she is appealing for help in the marathon effort. ?I am desperate to get help and sponsors and am running out of time so please sponsor me.? she said. Sponsorship forms are available from Kilworthy Kapers on Taylor Square, Tavistock, and from the Westmoor Veterinary Practice. Donations can also be made by calling Sally on 01822 613681. l Sally is pictured below preparing for the long journey.
