WEST Devon super runner, and record holder for youngest person to have completed 100 marathons, Adam Holland, is on a mission to break another record next year.
Adam, 26 from Tavistock, will be competing in the Brathay 10 Marathons in 10 Days challenge in Windemere in May.
Adam has taken part in the challenge twice before and is the World Record holder for the fastest completion of the event. In 2009 he set a record of 32 hours, 57 minutes and three seconds and beat this record in 2010 with a time of 30 hours, 20 minutes and 54 seconds — an average time per marathon of three hours, two minutes and five seconds.
This time he wants to break his own World Record again and try to run all ten marathons in under three hours each.
Adam said: 'It'll be a huge achievement if I can do it. As far as I know, no-one has come close to my first record. I want to do each marathon under three hours — last time I managed to do five of them under three hours.'
Adam said he is not going to be undertaking any particular training for the event but will stay physically fit and mentally strong: 'I can go out for a couple of days to train long distances but at the end of the day, when I am actually doing it, I just need to keep focused and motivated. It will be a big thing if I do break the record. I didn't run it full on last time so this time I will push harder.'
Adam is leaving Tavistock at the end of the month to start a new chapter of his life in Nottingham where he hopes he will be able to do more training.
The Brathay 10 Marathons in 10 Days challenge raises money for the Brathay Trust — a national charity that empowers young people to make a positive contribution to society.
The charity supports children and young people to enjoy a positive childhood and make successful transitions into adulthood. Its targeted programmes develop their social skills, psychological wellbeing, self-confidence and resilience in overcoming the difficulties they face in transition.
Adam is keen to raise £3,000 for the charity while breaking this record and is hoping that people in the community will help him to raise this amount.
Any businesses or individuals that would like to support Adam with a donation can do so by logging onto http://www.justgiving.com/tango10marathons">www.justgiving.com/tango10marathons or with a cheque made payable to 'The Brathay Trust' and post to Adam at 8 Cox Tor Road, Torlands, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 9JG.
