A MARY Tavy runner succeeded in his first marathon attempt, raising more than £2,000 for charity.

Ben Neale took part in the London Marathon and completed the 26-mile course in 3 hours and 29 minutes.

Ben ran the marathon to help raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and with the help of the Elephant's Nest Inn at Horndon allowing him to hold charity quizzes and host a sponsored horse ride, he raised £2,400 for the charity.

Ben expressed thanks to everyone who generously sponsored him and in particular Corin Russell who donated a week's wages.
