THE Friends of the Children?s Hospice South West in Tavistock this week paid tribute to the wonderful supporters who came to a cream tea and made donations when they collected for Hospice Week. They raised more than £500 for the children and parents of life limited children. Treasurer Denise Bacon said: ?You can rest assured that any money given will really make a difference. ?We were pleased to welcome the children from Whitchurch Pre-School again, bringing with them their poorly teddies and cuddly toys. These visitors remind us how lucky most of us are to have healthy children.? Mrs Bacon, of Grenofen, is also the district chairman of the Inner Wheel Club of Tavistock, an organisation primarily made up of wives, partners and relatives of members of the Rotary Club. The two are linked by their aim to serve in friendship. The club holds events to raise money, mainly for local charities. On November 1 the Inner Wheel will host the District 129 annual rally, commencing at 11.15am with a service held in St Eustachius Church, followed by a walk to the town hall for lunch. Ladies will be attending from across Cornwall and Devon. This is the first time the rally has been held in Tavistock. The main charity the club will be supporting this year, by the choice of Tavistock president Ruby Ditcher and Mrs Bacon, is Children?s Hospice South West, who are launching an appeal for help as they plan to build a new hospice in Cornwall.
