MORE than 30 volunteers from seven to 70+ were involved in a big community effort to improve facilities for Tavistock Football Club recently.
With around 120 matches a season, plus Tavistock AFC matches and functions in the community building, the amount of traffic coming and going from the club’s car park had taken its toll and waterlogged potholes were a big problem.
Despite the mizzle and fuelled by lemon drizzle cake, the volunteers helped shift five tonnes of aggregate in a little over an hour, ready for steamrollers from the Robey Trust to flatten it in no time.
Mark Allott, Under 8s coach and ‘pothole coordinator’ said: ‘It’s amazing what can be achieved in a few hours — a real Tavistock team effort with great bonhomie.
‘A massive thank you to all our amazing volunteers and those who called in favours and drew on their contacts to help the club.’
