Sidmouth Thirds v Tavistock Seconds

ASKED to bat first on a firm wicket Tavistock started well with Strawbridge and Johns putting on 51 for the first wicket.

Strawbridge and Jeffrey added 56 for the second wicket.

At halfway Tavistock were well set, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Strawbridge batted superbly, hitting three sixes and eleven fours in his innings of 86. But at 156-6 Tavistock looked in trouble until the tail wagged in emphatic style with Milligan (17), Munday (7) and Webber (12) providing support for Downham (32). Total 229 all out.

Sidmouth started solidly, putting on 99 for the first wicket and looked well set on 148-3, but man of the match Dave Jeffrey bowled Tavistock back into the game to claim a season?s best of 13-2-39-7 with his accurate deliveries.

At one stage he took three wickets in four balls. He was backed up by tight bowling from veteran Stuart Munday whose 13 mean overs only went for a meagre 30 runs.

Sidmouth were hanging on for a draw at the end. Tavistock?s 15 points mean they move up to second in the table.
