A MAN and his dog had to be rescued by fire crews after getting stuck on a roof, trying to escape a fire in an Okehampton house on Monday morning.

Two crews from Okehampton were called to Northfield Road, Okehampton, just after 9.30am, where they found the property heavily smoke-logged.

Crews used breathing apparatus, roof ladders and a 105 ladder to rescue the man, and a dog was rescued from the roof space.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The terraced house was severely damaged by fire and smoke. Ambulance and police were also in attendance.
