SOME members of the Ju Jitsu Tavistock Club recently entered a grading examination. Samantha Lamb passed and achieved fifth kyu while Ian Lawson and Mark Turner passed and achieved fourth kyu. Robert Curtis passed and achieved second kyu and is only two steps away from the coveted black belt. Umberto Bergonzini, the instructor of the club, passed and received his sandan or third degree black belt. He said: 'It was decided to run a grading examination during the last visit to the UK of Maestro Rovigatti eighth dan Ju Jitsu. 'All the students entering the grading examination, including myself, were extremely nervous. 'For my students it was the first time they entered a grading examination in front of the technical director of our association. 'I was extremely pleased by the performance and character demonstrated by my students. The hard work put in paid off — we all passed.' The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8pm and 9.30pm for adults and Fridays between 5.30pm and 6.15pm for children. Anyone interested in joining may contact Umberto on 01822 016178 or 07866 720361 or come to a class at the Scout Hall in Pixon Lane.
