THIS Sunday, October 21, marks the 5th anniversary of the Acoustic Music Nights at the Old Plough, Bere Ferrers. This has become one of the most popular live music venues in the area, where musicians and singers perform without any amplification in an informal, relaxed atmosphere. The Acoustic Nights take place on the third Sunday of every month from 8.30 pm. The evenings are hosted by Squandered Youth, (pictured right), a female trio who perform traditional and contemporary folk songs and tunes, using a variety of acoustic instruments. Other musicians and singers come from as far afield as Lostwithiel and Exeter to perform at this special venue. Over the years, audiences have been treated to a huge range of instrumental playing including harps, a didgeridoo, mandolins, and bagpipes to name but a few. The Bere Ferrers based Shanty Crew, the Tavy Tars, make regular appearances, and a real culture of music and song, accessible to all, has developed in the village.
