GET ready for an uplifting, quirky and hilarious production of 'Calendar Girls' by West Devon theatre company the Tavonians, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The play, based on a true story, tells of the efforts of Knapely WI to raise money when one of the members loses her husband to leukaemia. They come up with an idea for a new settee in the waiting room at the local hospital but the way they go about it is successful beyond their wildest dreams.
The girls, who produced the calendar ten years ago, did so for charity, and the Tavonians will be creating a calendar to accompany the production to raise money for Macmillan.
Tavonians director Stuart Waterworth lost his wife, Jeannie, to cancer last year and when he found out the play was available for amateur production for a short period of time, he was determined to stage it in her memory. Many of her friends agree that she would have been tickled pink at the idea.
The calendars will be on sale at the production, during the interval and after the final curtain each evening.
The Tavonians production of Calendar Girls will be at the Wharf, Tavistock, from Tuesday, November 12 to Saturday, November 16, with a preview on the Tuesday, tickets at £5, and performances on wednesday, Thursday and Friday at £9 a ticket.
The Saturday performance, starting at 7pm, will be a Charity Gala in memory of Jeannie Waterworth with tickets at £12 to include nibbles and a glass of fizz.
