A FAMILY tradition which has been on the back burner for a few years is being revived this August.
The runner bean competition has been a favourite of the Langton family in Yelverton for many years — and is being re-instated this year to help celebrate 120 years that the family has owned The Rock Inn.
Sue Callow, nee Langton, said: 'As part of our 120-year celebration we are re-introducing the very popular Longest Runner Bean Competition.
'For many years locals would attempt to grow the longest runner bean, which is then measured against a young girl's shapely leg as she perches on the bar.
'We are hoping someone will grow a runner bean long enough to reach from the knee to the ankle of our gorgeous niece, Susanna Easton.'
The event is being held on August 5 at 8pm at The Rock Inn, Yelverton.

The prize for the winner will be a £50 bar tab.
