THE first image of a £40-million shopping centre in Plymouth was revealed last week by the former Tavistock College student who has designed the major retail and leisure complex. Billie Lee, a director of Horton Cherry Lee Architects in London, said it was ?a privilege? to be part of the drive to take Plymouth forward. The 130,000 sq ft Colin Campbell Court development, more than three and a quarter acres, will be made up of retail, leisure and food and drink premises. It was granted planning consent by Plymouth City Council last week. Addressing the city?s planning committee, Mr Lee said: ?The retail benefits this scheme can bring to the city will complement Drake Circus.? Mr Lee attended Tavistock College in the 1980s before taking courses at Plymouth College of Art and Salford University. His parents, Victoria and Billie, live in Horrabridge. They said they were delighted a former Tavistock School student had risen so far in his chosen field. Mrs Lee said: ?He was always into art. He was great friends with Robin Fenner and designed his first exhibition with Robin when he was still at school. ?He?s never been one to blow his own trumpet though ? he?s very reserved.?
