TAVISTOCK Golf Club ladies? Mail on Sunday team ? Victoria Coe, Elaine Cooper, Kerry Gawman and Nicky Gawman ? continued their success with a win against Torquay on May 17.
Victoria Coe, Bev Ruth, Kerry Gawman and Nicky Gawman secured a further win over Minehead on June 7. They now go through to the sixth round against St Mellion on July 2.
Sally Hills came first with a nett 72 in the AEG medal qualifier on May 13, runner-up was Joan Prout (74c/b) and third Elizabeth Holmes (74c/b). The Marilyn Allen Trophy for Past Captains was won by Joan Prout.
The LGU Ladies? Championship of G B and Ireland, was held on May 27. The winner was Sally Hills (nett 73).
The Warren Crocus medal was held on the same day. Results were: Div 1 1, Penny Deakin (nett 74c/b); 2, Rosemary Cook (74); 3, Sharon Williams (77); Div 2: 1, Sue Gawman (72 nett); 2, Sally Hills (73); 3, Lynn Swift (74).
On May 29 the Tavistock Ladies League team beat Hele Park and the Sheelah Creasy Bronze team beat Honiton on June 16.
A crack of thunder and a flash of lightning threatened to spoil the Mixed Open on June 8. Dominic Rehaag, the Tavistock Professional, went out with the klaxon ready to call everyone in, but fortunately the storm passed towards Brent Tor.
Results of the mixed open were: 1, Scratch Andy and Victoria Coe (gross 72); 2, Scratch Ashley Collicott and Julia Norman, Exeter (73); 1 h/cap, John and Norma Thewlis (nett 65.5), 2 h/cap, George and Nicky Gawman (67.5); 3 h/cap Nigel Timpson and Anthea Kelsey (69); best visitors, Richard Pascoe and Lesley Kedge, Stover (74 c/b); front 9, Leslie and Barbara Porter; back 9 Brian Williams and Sybil Cole. The Betty Young trophy for the best nett Tavistock score went to John and Norma Thewlis.
The one club and putter stableford competition was held on June 11. The ladies? prize was won by Wendy Wroe (33 points); 2, Maggie Hillman (32), 3, Ann Russell (28).
The Challenge Bowl medal and two-day competition was held on June 10 and 13. The winner with a net 140 was Victoria Coe who also won the Turnbull Scratch trophy for the lowest gross score. Jane Scourse was runner-up (142). The Extra medal results for June 13 were: Div 1: 1, Nicky Gawman (70c/b); 2, Chris Leach 70);3, Elaine Cooper (71); div 2: 1, Jane Scourse (66); 2, Barbara Ham (67), 3, Mhairi McCall (70).
The combined bronze and silver open on Tuesday June 17, which was oversubscribed, was a huge success. The silver bowl was won by Jane Wright of Staddon Heights (nett 70); 2: Sue Cocks, Bigbury (71c/b); 3, Elaine Cooper (71c/b) who won the captain?s prize for the best Tavistock silver score; vets? prize: Anne Russell (71).
First in the bronze division was Lynn Swift (71), Lynn also won the bronze captain?s prize; 2, bronze Maureen Uren (72c/b); 3, Margaret Burn (72). Vets? prize Kay Bolster. The Scratch and Molly Muirhead salver in the silver division was won by Bev Ruth (83) with the bronze division going to Gabrielle Greening (96).
