Jewson South Western League
Tavistock 0
Holsworthy 3
'ABSOLUTELY shocking' was the verdict from the Lambs faithful after this poor performance against the Magpies.
The match went ahead despite the foot and mouth disease close to the visitors' town and the Lambs probably wished long before the end that it had been called off.
Tavistock welcomed back Darren Babb from injury and Holsworthy had a pre-match setback with their front man Ian Rowe failing a fitness test.
But it did not upset them too much and the Lambs received an early warning with Alan Clark shooting wide in the opening minutes before they went ahead in the eighth minute. Matt Godfree's through-ball found Dean Chidey to shoot across Andy Meeds from 12 yards.
Within a minute Meeds saved the Lambs from going further behind after a defensive blunder allowed Clark to get a shot on target.
Chris Gott shot wide on two occasions, George Pitts went close and Dean Tongue was fouled on the edge of the area as he burst through. But the Lambs were lucky to go in at the interval just one goal down.
It soon became two as Meeds was again in action at the start of the second half saving a shot at the bottom of a post.
Clark shot over before setting up Chidey to double his total in the 51st minute. Tongue was unlucky as he got behind the defence but Holsworthy's keeper, Lamerton, did just enough to force the wing back wide and the chance was gone.
The Lambs defence was undone again in the 67th minute when Matt Penry sent over a low near-post cross for Chidey to steer the ball past Meeds for his hat-trick.Gott then saw his goalbound shot palmed away by Lamerton. Substitute Steve Daymond saw a header that cannoned off him to go over the bar to end a dismal afternoon for the Lambs.
Tavistock still maintain a mid-table position but any more performances like this one will see them slide down it very quickly.
Team: Andy Meeds, John Gosling(sub Adrian Payne75m), Dean Tongue(sub Jon Nichols 70m), Lee Beer, Craig Hodge (sub Steve Daymond 60m), Darren Babb, Chris Gott, Mark Wall, George Pitts, Chris Kiely, Tony Cusack.
This Saturday, if there have been no further developments in the foot and mouth disease, the Lambs will travel to Penzance in the Jewson South Western League with a 3pm kick-off.
The P & D Premier side will probably not be in action due to the decision of Plymouth Council to put on hold all football within its area and will have to wait on the result of a meeting being held on Monday March 13.
