CASTLE Drogo will play host to a special talk from Martin Lutyens, chair of the Lutyens Trust.
Martin, who is great-newphew to of Sir Edwin Lutyens, will share his passion and knowledge of Sir Edwin in the talk, entitled 'From Country House to Viceroy's House: A journey with Sir Edwin Lutyens'.
He will discuss the development of Sir Edwin's work from his early days through to the commission for and building of New Delhi. He will highlight how his style changed and matured in the early part of his career, and the influence that the early work had on the design of New Delhi – and how that, in turn, influenced later work in the UK and Continental Europe.
Sir Lutyens designed Castle Drogo for Julius Drewe, the founder of Home and Colonial Stores.
Tickets are £20 per person, with all proceeds going towards the fundraising appeal to make Castle Drogo watertight.
The event on September 29 will start at 6.30pm and finish around 8.30pm. To book your ticket, call 01647 433306.
