A HORRABRIDGE resident has been awarded one of the top prizes in the Devon Hedge Group photo competition.
Graham Woollven's photograph 'Lundy Wall' was awarded second place — judges particularly liked the composition of the stone boundary, especially with the lighthouse at the end of the wall.
The large number of entries received displayed incredible diversity, with photographs covering all aspects of Devon hedges and the wildlife associated with them.
First place went to 'The Cauldron' by Phil Hemsley from Totnes, which looks north over the Wytchcombe and Yarnacombe vales of the South Hams region.
Sheila Haycox a locally renowned photographer and qualified judge said: 'The quality of entries for this competition was extremely high, making it a very difficult choice; so we decided to commend highly ten other images all for their own merits and these can be seen at the website http://www.devonhedges.org">www.devonhedges.org
The winner of the under 11 category was Ben Bingham from Crediton for his photograph of 'The Holly and the Ladybird'.
This competition for amateur photographers was part of a project entitled 'Green Veins and Lanes' grant-aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Devon County Council, and by both the Blackdown Hills and the North Devon AONB Sustainable Development Funds. All the winning entries will be on display at a travelling photographic exhibition which can be seen at Modbury Devon Rural Archive from October 11 to 27; Plymouth Central Library, from October 31 to November 6; Barnstaple Library from November 21 to 27, and Exeter Central Library from December 12 to 18.
